CUP has three open calls for City Studies teaching artist positions in the spring of 2014.

CUP’s project-based curricula enable students to explore fundamental questions about how the city works through collaborative research and design. CUP teaching artists/designers work with CUP staff and project partners to develop course ideas, schedules, lesson plans, and to document the project. Teaching artists produce a designed final product in collaboration with the students and CUP.

Call for a teaching artist for a City Studies class | Topic: TBD | Brooklyn | Academy of Urban Planning | $2000 stipend

We’re seeking a teaching artist to design and implement a 10-hour in-class project for high school students at the Academy of Urban Planning in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

This project will be part of a mixed grade English as a Second Language beginner’s class, and will investigate their own neighborhood. The teaching artist would help to develop a curriculum that would give the group the motivation and opportunity to speak English in real life situations. The class meets in mid-March, Monday through Friday, at 9:00 - 10:45 am.

The teaching artist will be paid $2000, and there is a separate budget for materials and other project costs.

We’re seeking a teaching artist to design and implement a 10-hour in-class project for high school students at the Academy of Urban Planning in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

This project will be part of a mixed grade Urban Studies class and will investigate a development or transportation issue in Bushwick. The teaching artist would help to develop a curriculum that would support the group's writing and reading skills, and work towards their final class project. The class meets in mid-March, twice a week, at 10:45 - 11:30 am.

The teaching artist will be paid $2000, and there is a separate budget for materials and other project costs.

Call for a teaching artist for a City Studies class | Topic: Food stamps | Bronx | International Community High School | $2000 stipend

We are seeking a teaching artist to design and implement a 10-hour in-class project for high school students at the International Community High School in the Bronx.

This project will be part of a 12th grade Government and Economics class, and will investigate food stamps. Who makes decisions about food stamps? What is the process to get them? The teaching artist would help to develop a curriculum to give students the skills to develop an argument. The class meets in mid-March, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:50-1:50.

The teaching artist will be paid $2000,  and there is a separate budget for materials and other project costs.
