CUP at UPROSE Climate Justice Youth Summit

CUP at UPROSE Climate Justice Youth Summit

CUP went to the UPROSE Climate Justice Youth Summit in Sunset Park. “Climate justice” and “Environmental Justice” view the health of the climate and environment as ethical issues since climate change may disproportionately affect low-income communities and communities of color. The summit featured speakers such as City Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito and Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez and provided youth the knowledge and tools to collaboratively approach some of New York City’s toughest environmental justice issues. CUP distributed free copies of two Urban Investigations that address climate justice and environmental justice issues: Power Trip and Are You Ready for a Ruckus?.  We had a great time, and were really inspired by the young people we met from organizations such as El Puente and YMPJ.
