Open Call for Advocates!

Open Call for Advocates!

Calling all advocates and organizers!

Collaborate with CUP on our next issues of Public Access Design!

We’re looking for community and advocacy organizations that are working to address policy issues that would benefit from a visual explanation, and where the lack of understanding of that issue is leading to social injustice. Together, we’ll collaborate with art and design professionals to break down complex problems into an accessible, culturally appropriate visual tool for your constituents.

Public Access Design (PAD) projects are short, intensive collaborations that result in a visual tool that meets a New York City-based advocate’s organizing needs as they arise. They are concise in scope, cover urgent topics, and take around 4-6 months to create, and our advocate partners will receive 1,000 free printed copies at the end!

We’re looking for groups who work directly with the constituency impacted by the issue and who can directly distribute the completed tool to that audience. Applicants should be interested in engaging in a collaborative design process and, most of all, interested in explaining an aspect of public policy! (We define public policy broadly – past topics include: how to avoid wage theft if you’re a domestic worker, how to get your stuff back after an arrest, and navigating the bail process). We welcome applications addressing issues related to COVID19.

Applications are due by October 12th, 2020 at 5pm – click here to learn more!

If you don’t have time to submit an application:
We know these are very trying and uncertain times, and want to make it as easy as possible for you to keep doing the work you’re doing. If you want to apply to Public Access Design, but submitting an application sounds like too much of a hurdle right now, schedule a call with CUP. We’ll talk through your proposed project topic and ask you a few questions about it, and put it in a format that our jury can easily review alongside applications submitted online. We’re happy to remove one barrier to getting important information out there in an accessible and meaningful way. Please email sucharitha@welcometocup.org to set up a phone call.
